the black fucking death happened and my population went from almost 5.4 million to 1.5 million and it’s still fucking dropping by 70k per week. This is one of the most punishing game events I’ve ever seen in something like this, what the fuck, I even had hospitals built in all my fucking cities so what the fuck paradox? christ
people are still dying. It was -500k a month for like half a year
Its not the black death but the special “native american plague” which happens when europeans arrive in the new world and kills 90%+ of your population. We tried to advocate for higher native populations in general and a higher focus on european brutalization leading to high casualty rates but alas. They didnt even include the amazonian civilizations.
Some modders, a paradox employee and me are currently working on a general new world overhaul mod.

AKA: The White Death

Oh cool Paradox are endorsing the idea that it was just germy wormys that killed the population and not brutalism?
Dickheads
The central Mexican indigenous empires were obliterated by a combination of civil war and disease before any sizable European colonizer populations had moved in. Cortez “conquered” the Aztecs in the sense that the remnants of the remnants of what were left surrendered to him as the most heavily armed surviving army.
The Europeans then brutalized the survivors beyond imagination, but the vast majority of the deaths occurred before then.
Kinda yes. Even the SoP thing was mainly pushed by one guy, otherwise the americas would be nearly empty.
the mod would be great if it even just added like a single fucking tin province to anywhere south of texas, like what the fuck is this shit
I’ve spent 150 years colonizing my way towards a tin province that i can’t even really use because there’s no way to get it to my market to make tools with and then this happened
wtf why the fuck isn’t there tin in the Andes? fucking paradox 😂
prob not helpful cuz you’re in new world and u prob know more than me ab the game but there is a trade building you can build in another empire that gives market cap in a new market, could find one that has tin and improve diplo attitude to build it
that doesn’t help in this case because that one tin province is the only one that exists in mesoamerica so nobody I can see would have access
bruh
edit: give it 6 dlcs i guess
Also do the hospitals do literally nothing then? Since I lost 90% of my population anyway
Oh shit I followed your thread on the pdx forums previously thank you for doing that
Personally I’m disappointed at the lack of representation of various north american peoples. The California-pnw region should have WAY more sops if not playable countries. Their languages were completely oversimplified. The lack of east coast tribal nations is certainly a choice too. It just feels like they gave up on making SOPs playable or interesting until they come up with mechanics for a new gameplay loop in a few years. This and the institution system forcing historical determinism into a very materialist game are my biggest complaints although I like the game a lot so far
Its not my thread, but I am on that team. And honestly same.

New world improvement project?
Yes
If there were web forums in the old days this would have been a pretty common post i bet
is this EU5?
yea
oh sorry it’s not the bubonic plague it’s “the great pestilence” THAT MEANS THE PLAGUE CAN HIT ME TOO
the Black Death happens to post contact american tags? i mean sure the event chain makes sense but they ought to fucking rename it. afaik there hasnt ever been an epidemic plague in the americas
indeed, that is relatively light. i think its because the rats hadn’t proliferated as well as in afroeurasia. i mean rats didnt even reach Alberta till 1950
Smallpox would like a word
“plague” is meant to refer to yersinia pestis, though it gets used as a word for other epidemic diseases
