I’m terrible at eye contact I can either have awful eye contact and actually hear the conversation or I can have perfect eye contact and not hear a word the person says
I make a lot of eye contact.
It is a skill I possess and deploy as needed
Is this one of those you are now breathing manually tricks? Because I’m virtually never conscious of this.

I have to force myself to look at the person I’m talking to because some people want eye contact. I find it distracting and I find it easier to focus on what we’re talking about if I look aside from them.

I don’t really have a problem with it. If you do (and you haven’t already heard this tip), try focusing right between their eyes. From their perspective you are making eye contact, and from yours it may be enough to lessen the discomfort.
