In the context of the celebrations in Moscow for the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union over fascism in World War II, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a significant meeting with his counterpart from Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré.
This act not only had a profound symbolic value, but also a geopolitical one, by consolidating the commitment of both countries to a solid and sovereign South-South cooperation, within the framework of the construction of a new multipolar world order.
Both leaders stressed the importance of projecting relations based on respect for international law and non-intervention in internal affairs, which, according to Maduro, places Burkina Faso as a key partner in the fight against unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against the Homeland.
During the meeting it was highlighted that, over the years, Venezuela and Burkina Faso have forged 27 agreements in areas as diverse as politics, science, internal security, agriculture, civil protection and education. In addition, 14 new draft agreements are under negotiation, aimed at expanding cooperation ties in strategic sectors such as energy and mining.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, emphasized at the First Meeting of the Venezuela-Burkina Faso Joint Commission, held on February 7, 2024, that both countries have made progress in more than 22 technical cooperation projects, which has allowed cementing a relationship based on the principles of South-South solidarity and commitment to the integral development of nations.
Diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Burkina Faso were formalized on September 2, 2003, under the government of Commander Hugo Chávez, who firmly promoted his policy of rapprochement with Africa through what he called “diplomacy between nations of Mother Africa”. Since then, Venezuela has maintained a firm commitment to share its experience in fundamental sectors for development, for the benefit of the allied countries of the African continent.
In this context, the meeting between Maduro and Traoré not only strengthens bilateral ties, but also fits into a broader vision of international cooperation that seeks to build a new world order based on justice, mutual respect and solidarity among the peoples of the Global South.
Based. When it comes to people of similar ideologies getting together 1+1<2. The confidence of knowing you are on the right path will encourage you to double or triple down. These dudes should become Best Bros Forever. Traoré will benefit immensely from Maduro’s experience with securing gains from outside interference. I feel like Maduro could use a bit of encouragement to take the kid gloves off when dealing with domestic counter revolutionaries and I think Traoré is just the guy to encourage that.
