Comments making this out like they are advocating to never wash clothes because I guess no one read the article. It starts about Denim clothes, which historically were invented as a workers clothes that were durable and wouldn’t be washed often. And because of that design, washing will degrade denim faster than normal clothes. They really should be only washed when needed. Unless you want to have the “worn” look much faster.

The rest of the article seems to just be "you don’t have to wash every piece of clothing because you wore it once for a few hours. Wash it when it’s actually dirty. "

Which I feel is reasonable? I change my undergarments and undershirts daily because they are directly contacting skin and get all my sweat and skin oils and all that gross shit on them. Pants every few days or weekly depending on use. Overshirts every other day or so. Bedsheets every few weeks because I shower at night before bed. If I didn’t shower before bed it would be weekly. But unless I’m camping or something, I really cannot go to bed without a shower. I’d feel gross.

As for the “wash clothes less for the environment” I mean, I’d be more ok with that line of thinking if we weren’t also allowing industry to burn through all the water reserves unhindered. And for the dumbest shit like cooling for AI hardware and shit. But also, it doesn’t actually take THAT mush water to wash clothes. On average, you use more water to take a shower than to run a load of laundry. Way more. If you want to save water without skipping proper hygiene. Take a bath instead of a shower. It uses even less water.

It’s the last bit that I take offense to in the article. Like yeah wash your shit when it needs washing, but let’s not pretend we’re saving the environment by not doing laundry.
