Google AI is uniquely useless in searching for this, “court arabs Russia” brings up nonsense about Russia discriminating against muslims, similar nonsense for ussr, and ““court arab” USSR” has it go “google AI can’t do this”

I pretty much got my question answered with the wiki page on the Arabian hall though, basically just four gaudily dressed bodyguards who pretty much were the official door openers preceding the tsar

Idk i see some people talk about “court arabs” but the wiki page for the Arabian hall and some others just refer to them as “Ethiopians” (in quotes because they weren’t lol) or “Blackamoors” and then one site i was looking at talking about Jim Hercules called them “the Abyssinian guard”

It doesn’t really matter though i was just like “what” and wanted to know what sort of role or function a “court Arab” did but the tl;dr seems to be that they opened doors for the Tsar and Tsarina
