Got tired with it. Fired up ytdlp( it was complex for me. So I used an android app called ytdlnis) and downloaded some music. I can’t do it in one day so still downloading.
🖕 music streaming . welcome offline music.
I still stream. But I have my own stream service with jellyfin.
I use IBroadcast.com. It allows you to upload your songs and hear them from the cloud. It has some premium features but with the free plan I’d say it’s more that ok!
Don’t forget that yt-dlp is not only for YouTube, it supports many other sites as well.
My strategy is to grab 120k versions of music I want right now, using yt-dlp with Bandcamp. Then, when BC does their Bandcamp Fridays, I buy as many of the 320k versions that I can afford.
Also, check out https://squid.wtf/ if you want higher quality and better selection. I have pretty good luck with the Qobuz servers when I can’t find something on BC.
As others said, don’t forget that the purpose of all this is to fuck the corporations, not the artists.
I had no idea about the bandcamp Fridays thing, definitely noting that for later
Just remember to pay forward. Go to local music shows, buy merch from the bands you like
I just canceled Tidal and set up a Navidrome server, and I’ve probably spent more on bandcamp and such lately than 2 years of that subscription.
So I can’t say I saved anything cost-wise, but having more control over my library is absolutely worth it. Realistically a single direct album purchase goes much further than streaming the same album anyway.
