Hexbear has one for Liberal, Kansas: !chapotraphouse@hexbear.net
City specific subreddits are the most
part of
why on earth would we want to replicate that in the fediverse?r/localcity be like: I’m as liberal as they come but we really need to start shooting the unhoused on sight
Also any location specific
is guaranteed to be at least 50% americans pretending they are from there.

I am firmly convinced that joining a local subreddit is driven by the same basic impulse as joining an HOA board, or a fascist party, differentiated only in degree.
The impulse for us should be “drown out these fucking losers and appropriate the small community-focused institutions into something useful”
Edit: oops not exactly my comm, didn’t see that
because you can actually ban the creeps and stop it from looking like Facebook.
I think its a good idea, if they’re explicitly left leaning.deleted by creator
There is a mastodon instance for atlanta i think: https://join.theatl.social/
There is midwest.social
Might be others.
I’ve thought about setting up a northeast.social.
There used to be Craigslist and in some places there still is. Some cities have other websites, search for cityname + classified ads listing etc. Newspapers. I highly doubt it’ll be fediverse.
All else fails do it the old fashioned way: put up some posters asking your question with an email address. Maybe someone will clue you in.
the network effects are pretty strong so you basically have to go wherever the most people are. I guess maybe its a thing on mastodon, but I haven’t spent enough time there to know
