Anecdotally, a local group has been monitoring deportation flights, from both on the ground and using flight tracking. After our communities started having some success with ICE patrols deterring these raids, it was observed that flights were still occurring at about the same rate, meaning they must’ve been flying mostly empty planes when known abductions for those days/weeks were far too low to fill up each of the observed flights.
All that is to say, this spending isn’t even useful for their intended purpose, as evil as it is. This is just a way to burn money, and is probably mostly motivated by some kickback deal with Boeing if I had to guess.
