Part of this is about direct backlash, but there’s also the issue of rankings. If Trump appointments more judges that didn’t go to liberal Ivy League law schools and those judges selects clerks that didn’t go to liberal Ivy League law schools, Harvard could take a hit in the law school (and other departments) rankings. Last thing Harvard wants is their reputation as the pathway to elite jobs sullied.
