It’s something that’s been popping up in the news more frequently in the past year or so. The avian flu has been going through and destroying wildlife populations as well as farm animals. Factory farm condition make it a lot easier for the disease to mutate which scares people since we have gone through covid.
More doomer parts of the internet circulate the stories and act like it will kill a billion people and collapse the modern world. It does have a high case fatality rate currently (~60% of people who end up in the hospital) but if it transmits human to human then it will fundamentally be a different disease and less lethal. We already have a vaccine for an old strain which is good news.
