Of course not. Because to make it work, the US would need a Communist Party that isn’t totally useless. And no one who lived through the Cold War is going to allow that to happen.

I love that some of the modern McCarthyists are so bad, that when they call someone a communist who actually is a socialist of some description, no one takes them seriously.

Not that we would, of course. He’d turn in his grave at modern communists doing that. He hated cult of personality nonsense directed at himself just as much as Lenin did. He didn’t want the people to erect statues of him and name stuff after him.

But yeah, the double standard is ridiculous.

I wish a “Stalinist” party would take power in the US. Maybe then the sins of that guilty land could finally begin to be purged. Maybe then the US would actually do some good for the world. Maybe they could actually spread Freedom and Democracy by supporting other communist revolutions. Instead of just saying they’re Spreading Democracy as an excuse to bomb civilians in countries 90% of their population can’t point to on a map.

I mean, I catch myself falling for Soviet nostalgia crap that ends up in the West a lot, despite having been born long after the dissolution, but like, the Western left as a whole has a Soviet obsession and Eastern Bloc nostalgia problem. Lot of Western communists who didn’t live through the Cold War but miss it anyway, along with those who did live through it and miss when just being a communist was in and of itself revolutionary and dangerous and Doing Something. People who love Soviet aesthetics and still want Red Dawn to actually happen, instead of having to lead a local revolution and take local culture and material conditions into account.

So, this might not work that well in the actual former Warsaw Pact… but it sure as hell works in countries that were on the other side of the Cold War.

That is… Very strange. But also not that surprising. Lot of Russian “past power and glory” nostalgia relies on the Orthodox church and tsarism just as much as it relies on Stalin era USSR or post Great Patriotic War Soviet nationalism.

Stalinism doesn’t exist.

I want some. Bet that feels amazing.

But at what cost?

Where I live, there’s a lot of advertising, but nowhere near as bad as in the US. When I first visited the US, beyond trips to see Dad’s brother who lives there, during which we were not there long and all of the children were simply left in the home with some of the adults while others went out, I was astounded at the sheer amount of advertising. I’d never seen giant billboards on the sides of the highway before! Streetside billboards, sure. But not on a highway!

This, absolutely. Hell, replace it with the kind of stereotypical commie propaganda the West accuses socialist states of plastering everywhere, that’d still be nicer than corporate slop.

Tbh, a huge commie meetup where a bunch of different leftist groups from all over the world are all converging in one place, and telling the country involved’s government and the hotel/conference center we were something incredibly lame and apolitical or obviously liberal, would be pretty funny.

Hopefully we could organise something way better than when Tumblr tried to do a convention, lol.

It is absolutely popular. I know people who’ve gone. They hate “The Commies”, and refuse to support AES states in any way, directly or indirectly, but they’ve visited resorts in Cuba.

Liberal cognitive dissonance is one hell of a thing.

Of course capitalism can’t be at fault for everything, that’d be too obvious! Blame the trans people and the commies, they make you feel icky so they must be the cause of your problems! All the conservative populists say so! It’s not class war, it’s obviously queer folks who are the dangerous minority, not the top 1%!

Bunch of terrified liberals hiding in a fortified public library, burning the books for heat, eating the pigeons, and blasting out annoying nonsense over emergency broadcasting, claiming it’s Red Dawn out there, while sane people are enjoying a socdem doing a few decent things… that’d make a good story. And sounds about right for post Red Scare Americans.

Funny. Everyone wants to be all “people will blame capitalism when bad things happen” but then can’t understand that the problems they’re worried about would literally only happen because of capitalism. Ugh, liberals.
