copyright is bad but absence of copyright is also not great. it should be replaced with a far more restricted version that only applies to art, with a massively shortened duration (10~15 years seem about right, from when you see it in your childhood to your mid 20s when you can start to produce meaningful works), with fair use baked in alongside new protections for non-commercial use and establishing faster and significantly cheaper mechanisms to settle disputes. the legislation should allow for evolution of culture and rapid dissemination of information while still retaining some rights for small artists.

will that work out? maybe but we haven’t even tried, and it’ll certainly be better than our public domain being frozen to basically 1930s while big media conglomerates merge and continue to hoard IPs, essentially holding our entire culture hostage. something has to give. unfortunately it’s not a high priority issue and media lobby pockets are deep, so it’s not gonna happen.

EDIT: of course the whole point of copyright is to protect the right holder’s profits to provide “incentive” for people to create original works. outside of a capitalist system such system of ownership is just bad, although some measure to stop misattribution might be useful.

it’s an interesting show, but it could easily affirm western chauvinism instead of being critical of it. episode 7 really didn’t change anything so im still waiting to see which direction will the show choose.

my take on it was that the virus likes to spread itself, so some alien race that had been infected were observing humans for some years and decided that in at least 1200 years humans will develop the technology required and decided to send the virus. if they involve aliens in the show it’ll be ruined imo so best to leave it unexplained.

the game’s balance is completely fucked. mongolian basically becomes the dominant culture of the world every run because AI rulers don’t like converting to the local culture. the game does not crash from the bugs (mostly, my game would crash on autosave writes but it was uncommon) but “the intended gameplay” is completely ruined because of the bugs. at this rate it’ll probably take about three to six months to be able to play the game as it was actually conceptualised.

max out diplo spending and create a ton of one province vassals (don’t make them fiefdoms because they can make separate peace in my patch it’s probably a bug or some unexpected mechanic) and enforce culture on them. you get a good amount of tax and if you give it a decade or two they convert their province themselves and you can diplo annex them later. you’ll get a nice swarm too.

extremely slow but in order of decades rather than centuries. the only cap on it is that your overall vassal strength shouldn’t be more than yours otherwise they’ll become disloyal.

back when i started osrs it was possible to grind 30 hours for a 3 mil bond and once you get to membership it was possible to maintain a bond with 2 hours per day of gameplay (that first 2 weeks you had to grind for your life but after that it was chill). but now bond is more like 14 mil it’s basically impossible to get a bond from f2p.

if you never played it i suggest you continue to not play it. the fun per hour ratio is extremely low, and i like the grind if you don’t like grinding just forget it. i could’ve spent my time on much much better things (fun wise or productive wise) than osrs. i like it but objectively it’s a burnout machine. it’s a second screen game for most people but i don’t have a second screen so it’s kinda hard to do anything other than listening to videos and podcasts.

salvagejacks vs exploration chads. i absolutely love exploring. i know i’ll run out of sea eventually but it’s good while it lasts. i like getting my camera low with open horizons, blue skies and even bluer seas, on the rudder with absolutely no care.

sailing is a great addition to the game. it fits so well with the existing content, although it makes the quests that you use a boat in really weird. so much content revolved around the sea and pirates before sailing was actually a thing.
