Someone said DnD is a perfect example of this, except:

DnD 3e was better than 1e and 2e, and 4e came about because video game popularity was something WotC were trying to get in on, and 5e came about because Pathfinder 1e stole (took back?) like, half their fanbase.

The game getting worse over time (5e is terrible, FIGHT ME!) is literally because of profit seeking.

    Disregarding the terrible analogy, if you stop enjoying a hobby just because other people join in, you never cared about the hobby either. You’re as much of a feckless pretender as they are. Though the whole idea of weeding out pretenders is entirely silly as well.

      hobbies can change, especially hobbies controlled by corporations. i’m sure there’s some dipass who genuinely liked cod games and not fortnite and now cod looks exactly like fortnite.
