It was Zara and one other user – I forget whom – that accused said moderator of drawing furry CSAM because they did a piece of chibi artwork for a friend that was separate from any sexualized stuff that might have been in their backlog of other drawings. I don’t know if I can corroborate the timing of 'Grad spinning of from communism.lemmy.ml – I do remember that the Lemmy site pre-dated the /r/CTH ban by quite a bit, along with our early forays into trying to start up a community over on Raddle before Ziq started acting like, well, Ziq.
I know the community that would become lemmygrad existed, and might have been called that, but I honestly can’t remember if it was already it’s own site and lemmy instance at that point. I thought it was still on lemmy.ml, but it might not have been, I just remember coming across Zara’s big rant while looking for the old sub’s lifeboat. I also remember that there was next to no activity either there or on lemmy back then, and that even early chapochat when people were still filtering in was orders of magnitude more active than them.
I think you’re mostly correct I think I remember checking out Lemmy waaay back before the sub ban and it was just .ml and grad hanging out. Hopefully someone can come by and set it straight (in case a future Hexbear historian wants to reference this thread someday)

I actually confused Kerry for Al Gore somehow, probably because they both ran against Bush in the early 2000s.
