What you are looking at is my China Playthrough of the PRC that I… had ‘fun’ with (used console commands, because I barely understand HOI4 that isn’t LARPing as leftists and gaining super weapons lol) This is in The Fire Rises Mod right here, that features cool and weird paths and allows for these fun stuff to happen. What you see is just the beginning btw, because this: Photo of PRC, with more allies and USSR Winning after the First European War

is what I ended off with before I went to bed. Took me like, 6 hours, honestly, and I need some… break from HOI4 afterwards, because being this obssessive over moving units around does not make for good creative work, but if you want, I can like… add more screenshots of the Americas, or Europe if you’re curious on how that went.

The only thing i hate about the china content in this mod is that you are locked out of the super ML focus path if you don’t lose the taiwan war.

True, I remember the timeline like this CPRF (Russia, for now) is elected The Taiwan War (China vs Japan, Taiwan and South Korea) The First European War (RSFSR + other soviet republics vs NATO) The Great Asian War ( EADI - China vs. PDTO - Japan) The Second European War (MTO - USSR vs. Pact of Steel - Germany)

So, there’s definitely a lot of interactions that should happen, in both the USSR (if they don’t use Chinese Model) and China (especially in my playthrough involving Xi because I didn’t deliberately lose my own Taiwan War). When I played as China, there was no focus to help the USSR in any way, it was all my doing, sending lend lease, volunteers etc. As the USSR when I played them, I barely paid attention to China, I just volunteered when I could and since I went down the non-Chinese Model Path, I couldn’t get the interactions associated with going ‘Deng’ (lol).

        • Yeah more or less my thoughts. To a lesser degree, there’s also America’s case, when it becomes the UAPCR.

Even though it is partly deindustrialized and wartorn initially, it can become an powerhouse isolated from any serious world threats and an invaluable ally. And there’s nothing between it and China or the USSR, not even something BnR related?

Yeah! Though, in my game, the post-civil war tree had missing icons and generally was ‘generic’ to any APLA winner (i.e. UAPCR, SRA, USSA, and APAP), I think, it was likely unfinished as well, though they could do with a new alliance, it was pretty much unfinished along with the ADS (you know, the UN, communist version) and yeah, the whole BnR or BRICS stuff, I think that’s also unfinished.

In general, TFR is a young mod (Just a year old! At Oct. 18, 2024 is their official release!), and if they keep up the good content, they can catch up to maybe Millenium Dawn-type content without it’s bloat, especially with the more… chaotic and interesting scenario with the 2ACW, First European War and Taiwan/Great Asian War.

Bruh, I just wanna play like Japan Communism or UK Communism, or heck, give some love to Iran, Saudi Arabia, India & Pakistan, or even like the rest of non-Japan/PRC Asia, the entirety of Africa or the whole of Americas that aren’t the US! But… there are priorities, and as far as I know the Revanchist (PRC) Path was just added, and as far as the teased content are concerned, it’s more of just updates to America, Russia and the Koreas.

Until then, I guess like, you can’t play as Gaddafi ruling over North Africa just yet… or any updates to like how certain focuses and events work… IDK, maybe we can complain at their discord about that, hah.

Ah yeah that’s true, but it makes sense because how would the leadership and ideology of the party shift if that same ideology won them the taiwan war? Though I really wished there was a way, maybe civil war? IDK.

Maybe? It really depends on how you play and what you want to ‘cheat’. For example, I am a LARPer at heart, as I’m a hobbyist creative writer, so I make my army have like super tanks and futuristic air planes or something, because even with those I find myself struggling yet knowing I can do some bullshitting to get my roleplaying good.

For example in the same game in HOI4, I fought and sent some volunteer units in a French Civil War supporting the Socialists against Fascists and Liberals, and there were a lot of times where my AI nation would fail me and make me retreat, or get surrounded or pushed back, so I had to think while RP’ing that Chinese Tanks that are the pinnacle of humanity still struggle if the country you’re supporting is weak. Though, for that one I had to bullshit my way and get a focus tree for it because the USSR won and to make the game ‘interesting’ the fascists automatically rise out of a Europe devastated by it, and the Socialists were restricted from a path and are just there to get crushed by the Fascists.

From what I remember, there are economy cheats (like the income_var/liquidity specific to The Fire Rises Mod), research and army cheats (specifically only technology, you’d need a mod for actually creating units out of thin air), political cheats (this one is harder on mods like TFR, but you can usually figure it out if you remember how to connect the default vanilla commands with the new content of the mod), game rule and paths cheats (for example, you can set Russia to go USSR in the TFR mod, without you having to pray to rng god or disable volunteer limits, wargoal limits, etc.) and focus tree / decision cheats, where you can use ff to do whatever you want with them in HOI4, and decision.nochecks cheats to bypass most restrictions on that front.

      That’s for HOI4, though.

No judgement here, 95% of my Stellaris campaigns result in me making bloated left wing type II/III Kardashev scale civilisations that are solely reliant on me using console commands because I’m terrible at managing resources otherwise. Would love to figure out how to play the game normally but always end up in an energy deficit. Still pretty fun though.

On one hand, it’s a bitter pill, especially when Taiwan has no plausible defense with the US out of the picture (and the mod somehow makes the JSDF way more competent than they actually are). On the other it’s oh-so satisfying to take Taiwan as you’re also taking Korea and SEA all at once, showing how far the PLA has come.

True to that. I think it’s because of ‘balance’ that the JSDF doesn’t immediately collapse, otherwise if you’re not playing as Japan or China you’d see the PLA win everytime, which would be cool but the mod often randomizes paths when you play (i.e. my recent playthrough, I was playing a Melenchon France vs. LDPR Russia, the PRC has gone revanchist). Also like, Japan, or India don’t have complete focus trees so you can’t even like do socialism in Japan (yet) that likely requires the loss of the Taiwan War.

And like, the realism is… debatable anyway, might as well make it fun.

And yeah, as in my other post about my China game, it was so… satisfying even with my failures, to paint Asia red.

          • The ROK would actually make more sense as a leader in the PTDO war effort, given that the ROKA is a well-oiled machine by comparison. Sure, Japan has a moat defending it called the Korean Strait but in that case, Australia and Indonesia would be contenders. But overall I agree.
