Hello everyone. I hope you all have had a good week, and to my fellow Americans, are enjoying the holiday weekend. This week I’ve mostly just been playing Balatro. I have completed another deck on Gold stake which brings my total deck completion to 5.
If I can be sentimental for a second, my parents dog Luna tragically and suddenly passed away this past week. My parents rescued her last year and she was the sweetest dog imaginable, followed my dad everywhere, and loved to swim, dig, and give high fives. For all those of you with pets, I ask you to always cherish and love them, you never know when your time with them will end
Sorry for your loss
Anyway I’ve been playing Phantasy Star Online, I’m obsessed with this game again.
I loved PSO. I played split screen on GC with my brother every day for like a couple months way back when.
I’m also still grinding Balatro, trying to get all jokers on Gold. I actually got more in the last week and a half than I did the previous month. I’m down to 6 or 7 left.
Bought 9 Kings. The full game is much better than the demo and the devs are listening to feedback. They haven’t released every faction yet, but they’re coming soon in an update. Having 7 kings to choose from, up from 4 with a 5th. that can show up as an enemy, has made the game more balanced and less solved. You still want stuff that scales. Libraries, Blacksmiths, and Beacons are still the most important buildings, but it’s possible to win without them now.
I played through Dead Island 2 because I got it for free on Epic. It was decent for a game that went through development hell, though the gameplay was pretty simplistic.
That left me wanting something more substantial, so I started a playthrough of Dying Light. Just beat the main story, which was very satisfying. Died an embarrassing number of times to the exploding enemies who I would reflexively hit when I saw them after turning a corner. I’m debating whether to play the expansion. It being set in the countryside and lacking verticality is kind of disappointing.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is activating all the same parts of my brain that loved Danganronpa even if i’m not arguing for my life. it’s really nice to have a mystery to solve again
I played all the Danganronpa games back in the day. How close is this game to them ? Does it feel like a Danganronpa ?
the gameplay itself is like a tactical RPG but the visual novel portions are very similar to danganronpa in tone, characters and setting. it’s really cool
Fantasy life I. Its super childish, but the game loop is pretty good for my brain
Fantasy Life hooked me in a way that stuff like Stardew and Animal Crossing never manage, not sure why though. It’s got the special sauce I guess!
Edit: Maybe it’s the MMO feeling it has that scratches my old addictions
Ohh if its the new one that looked interesting.
I was curious, but read the multiplayer functionality is heavily limited. I can’t see myself going too deep on one of these games without doing everything with a friend.
May Luna rest in peace
Im messing around with Crusader Kings 3 and I might give Cavalry Girls a try in a bit (chinese Mecha waifu game) . Short week next week so that is cool
another kenshi playthrough where i don’t pay for any recruits but have to instead get them from other means, primarily freeing prisoners and slaves.
a lot of cyberpunk recently too, great satisfying driving so far. reminiscent of gta 4’s
Sorry for the loss of your furry friend. I was also meaning to say a thank you for running these weekly posts. It’s fun to blab out games.
I pulled some brutal hours last week, so I’ve spent the day eating trashy food and playing Cassette Beasts for the bootlegs (shinies) and Pokemon for the team-building.
it’s fun to blab about games
Exactly why I post these!
Monster Train 2 is on gamepass. Absolutely loved the first so very excited for this one
Back into Celeste. Just completed Rightside-Down Cavern, a red-advanced difficulty level from the Strawberry Jam Collab with a number of gravity reversal mechanics. I made it through most of the level in two sessions, but I was stuck in the last room for about five days. 1736 deaths.
Discovered a hidden Vaporeon easter egg which I haven’t seen documented online (there is a well-known Flareon easter egg earlier in the level)
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Just made some progress in Runescape 3, trying to balance between that and OSRS.
(wall of text rant about RuneScape with spoilers)
I wish that Jagex would rewrite almost every quest between the world wakes to Sliske’s endgame. The world events have big plot changes but no one can really access. Including the God alignment system. It promotes the idea of all ideologies being equally valid, yet at the same time Bandos gets killed off (RIP fascist Bozo) and Zamorak if fought directly and while not killed, you certainly outfight him and that would not sit well with the average Zamorakian player. Plus restoring the edicts at the end makes the god alignment system make little sense as you literally God-proof the whole planet. Plus, it canonically all takes place after ritual of the mahjarrat but can still be accessed and completed before rotm which makes little sense.
I know it’s a waste of resources, but I’d rewrite at least some of them like maybe missing presumed death and Kindred Spirits to exist pre-rotm perhaps?
Advance Wars.
The first one was fun. So far I like the new stuff in the second one, but the maps are kind of large and empty so far.
I still enjoy the first one. I never played any of the sequels because I liked all the challenges and custom games you could play.
I’ve had pets get sick over time and pass away, it was difficult of course, but the dog I had that died in the prime of his life out of nowhere still makes me cry to think about. I’m sorry your family is going through that.
As far as games, somewhat related to emotional difficulty, I can’t stop playing Mordhau still. It feels like it connects to something primal in me, I scream constantly and decapitate enemies surrounded by other screaming warriors. But you don’t have to take it seriously, you can just go dance with the bard or do emotes with the enemies at their castle unarmed.
It’s the only PVP game I’ve seen where if you just walk around with no weapon and wave to people a lot of enemies won’t even attack you lol.
Sorry for your loss OP, pet losses tug at my heartstrings more nowadays, after I’ve finally learnt how to properly take care of them and see the reward. A happier pet makes a happier home.
As for games, I’ve been juggling a ton of games recently. Helldivers 2 with friends, and Rimworld, Bannerlord, Minecraft, and ArmA Reforger on my own. Kinda got burnt out of open worlds and I haven’t finished KCD2 despite having a lot of interest in it.
