I love it when faschies quote Orwell. Like, you obviously didn’t read his works or you would know he was a socialist.
Edit: I’m not in any way about to get into deep discussions. I’m on mobile and have ADHD, so just deal with my overly reductionist statements.
Edit 2: Orwell called himself a socialist, argue with him.
Later, he became active in democratic socialism, and I’m not arguing whether that’s the same or different. That’s a whole other discussion.
He was very critical of communism (very much not the same thing as socialism, at least in practice during the first half of the 20th century, and in the US and other western countries, socialists amd communists came to blows with each other), and Stalinism specifically. He was equally hypercritical of tory-flavored monarchism, and amy other type of authoritarian government.
The guy who made opposing socialism his life mission, who was a colonial cop, and snitched on gay people, Jews, and communists to the British state was an antifascist socialist? Well I’ll be!
Tbh Orwell is a good example of how someone can call themselves a socialist, and even maybe consider themselves one, while doing the work of capitalists and opposing socialism. He’s definitely more broadly seen as having been a socialist thought, so I’m a bit annoyed at my comrades here for jumping on you to make what is unfortunately still a fairly niche correction.
It’s crazy how the CIA and the rest of the US government has had however many decades to figure this out but you got there first while they’re still stumbling in the dark distributing Orwell’s socialist propaganda, which as we can see is responsible for the grand red wave of socialism that has overtaken American politics.
Edit: Alright, sorry about being snarky, though not enough to remove it ig, but more seriously I strongly encourage you to reread Animal Farm and take careful note of how he describes the general population of workers as being too stupid to even be oppressed because that would require having an independent will and ability to conceptualize things being better or worse beyond what they’re instructed, which Orwell takes great pains to tell us almost all of the working class was incapable of.
Orwell is so red they taught him in my school but they had to make sure to bring a veteran to explain how bad socialism and Stalin were afterward, just to make sure we didn’t get any ideas. Not that that was the teacher directly explaining the themes of the book Animal Farm.
Again, reread animal farm. He was not a socialist, he was a misanthropic freak who used his status as a supposed socialist as cover to do nothing but red bash even as fascism ran rampant.

Hell hath no fury like a Hexbear user who sees someone with an @ next to their name saying something that’s even slightly incorrect.

He very obviously criticized the implementations he was witnessing, but still held to the ideals. It’s easy to imagine "No, no, not like that! "
