Astonishing that this is even a thing.

Any other country where the ruler have absolute immunity and the ability to pardon/execute people with the stroke of a pen would be labeled a dictatorship. Don’t get me started on the whole gerrymandering, two party system and media monopolies etc.

    Just straight up banana republic.

We just had to elect a corpse and then pretend he wasn’t obviously senile. It was the only way to stop fascism. There’s no way it could backfire.

People told him to defund the Inquisition, he increased the Inquisition’s budget to record levels, and now it’s being used by a certain Mr. Horus to occupy Holy America. I just want to join the Tau.

I’m not saying I like what Trump or the GOP are doing here, and this is obviously motivated by pettiness and partisan contempt, but I spent the last few years insisting to people that Biden was a senile old fuck who shouldn’t be allowed to drive a car, let alone run a country, and I’m not going to back down now. They’re right, he was barely able to put sentences together or recognize where he was. Who’s to say he knew what he was signing?

I don’t think it’s a bad thing to establish the precedent that elected officials with noticeable cognitive decline shouldn’t expect their decisions to be validated by subsequent administrations. If a party doesn’t want to take that risk, then they should stop Weekend at Bernie’s-ing thousand-year-old mummies and just pick candidates who can do basic things, like name the city they’re currently in, or draw a clock.

Yeah like the same applies entirely to Trump but I fully believe everything Biden signed should be overturned or at the least go through extensive review

Also Kamala Harris should be in prison for violating her obligations under the 25th amendment. It doesn’t say she had the ability to remove him for being incompetent to serve, it says that she shall (read: must) remove him for being incompetent to serve. JD should also be in prison for the same reason.

The problem is that Trump is possibly even more senile. This is not at all in good faith and you can safely just not support this

I said up front that I don’t really agree with the way this is being handled, nor do I think this is being done in good faith.

What I’m saying is that, unlike with the rest of the Trump admin’s policies, they actually have the kernel of a legitimate point to make on this one. Further, if people don’t want this sort of thing to happen again, the parties simply need to avoid electing people who are mentally unfit. Trump is also clearly mentally unfit, and his orders should also be overturned and ignored going forward.

This isn’t support for the Trump administration or their bad faith efforts. This is me saying that if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. It should not be surprising that the dementia-president’s orders are being questioned.

I will not be made to respect liberal norms and clutch pearls when Trump acts like a bull in a china shop, I really couldn’t care less about American legal precedent and overturning previous presidential decisions, it’s entirely pointless to care about

agreed. redshirt made an entirely reasonable point that if someone’s brains are leaking out their ears, they shouldn’t be signing executive orders.

the actual solution here isn’t to take one miniscule measure at a time like disallowing autopen above a certain age, it’s to overhaul the entire political machine and culture so that miserable, senile old fucks aren’t in decision making positions in the first place. obviously this GOP tactic is bad faith because they’ve got their own senile fuck on the throne now, but redshirt isn’t incorrect.
