I used to not have this pet peeve. Then one of my coworkers mentioned it was one of his during a conversation about acquiring other people’s pet peeves. And now I have the same pet peeve because I see it used all the time.
I think it’s good not to do real ad homs in basically any context because it’s still an invalid inference, but you’re also right that it’s not a real ad hom.
