The target was suburban elderly people who were comfortable but otherwise precarious in terms of healthcare, either because of poorly maintained health, expense of treatment, or both. And it’s been like 16 years since I last heard the term “death panel.” I gotta assume time and covid just wiped out that whole demographic.
Also like other people have said it’s kinda nonsense to fear monger about death panels when that concept is real, but it’s private insurance providers denying claims. A conservative couldn’t come out today and say “the liberals want to have a shadowy group deciding if it’s financially viable to render treatment for your grandpa” because that’s already a real thing and it’s what united and Blue Cross Blue shield do

That’s always been the reason why there was fear mongering over death panels to begin with. “Every accusation is a confession” is true because attacking your opposition for the thing you’re already doing is an effective propaganda tactic for mudding the water.

The US has privatized its death panels
Yeah that shit was everywhere post Obamacare. I remember being told by my grandpa that “The Democrats will kill me because I’m too old” or some shit.
Then killing people who were older became acceptable because of covid.

You see, when that was happening under Obama, the healthcare industry wasn’t ready for regulation and change. That’s why we were worried about death panels. Since the healthcare reform stuff worked in their favor, and there’s no perceived threat of regulation, they’re actually doing death panels. Especially since covid. Death panels are cool now and even people who would die under them are like “yeah we need those because I can’t afford to pay for someone to stay alive”.
Since Canada started doing them openly and proudly (and people discovered profit to be had in the idea) it has very much died down.
remember “if you like your death panel, you can keep it”? well, they got to keep it, so they’re feeling safe now.
