Everything feels so superficial, consumerist and gross. Like, it always was, but we used to at least have a counterculture to it. The only thing close to a counterculture is anti-woke shit which I think is going to bite us in the end.

I feel like I’m getting more misanthropic lately and I don’t like it. But I feel like most people are just getting kind of shitty and sucked into “the game”, more so than usual. Opposition to this is brushed away as bitter or “angry at the world”.

But like, sometimes angry bitter people have a point? I think the total rejection of anger is dangerous, similar to not allowing people to be sad.

Everyone wears this mask of charisma, but it’s suffocating and pretentious.

Yeah, the anti-consumerism, anti-selling out, etc. position got abandoned by liberals and is called “unrealistic” or “purist” by people now. 4chan nazis kept it but everyone else is like “you don’t want [blank] to succeed?” if you criticize any artist getting worse to make more money.

Even the videos meant to look like organic content are dressed up so bad and are obvious ads.

This is why I don’t use tiktok or reels, and when I watch a YouTube short I never scroll up

i scroll twitter endlessly so i’m no better, but the short-form video content feed never really got me bc so many of the videos are complete dogshit and when i scroll for too long i tend to start getting actually upsetting/shock content. which, i mean, happens on twitter too. we need to ban algorithmic feeds tbh

I’ve been struggling with that as well, modern society keeps forcing us in this charade to act like everything is goingto be ok, but it isn’t and the writing is clearly on the wall. So what can you even say when someone feels anxious, sad and angry?

Try to use the energy from your anger to build something good, whatever that means to you. Personally I really enjoy growing plants and food

Socialists should be able to channel righteous anger and disgust at the capitalist system. I too feel the misanthropy coming on lately and it’s difficult to resist it but you have to remind yourself that we are all (other than the ruling classes) ultimately products of this evil system and victimised by it and it’s not our fault that humans are unable to thrive under such oppressive conditions.

I think rampant consumerism seemed more tolerable when the products you could consume were both more affordable and less shitty. Every fucking product seems like its made to be as fucking annoying and disrespectful to the consumer as it can legally get away with, especially anything tech or computer-related.

You really are. The way you’ve been posting over the last months is definitely different than your usual demeanor. Tbh, I worry for the mental health of people who post in the doomer comm consistently, not just you.

It wouldn’t be right to ask you not to be angry considering the state of the world, but I hope you can find something to counterbalance that anger in you life cuddle

Real and same. I really think mine is unlikely to change tbh. Maybe if the cause of like 98% of my issues wasn’t the majority of people I’d be able to feel differently.

    si

If I didn’t constantly want to kill myself because of what they have done/continue to do. Honestly think I’m okay to be a little selfish here.

Some recent movies I really enjoyed. Some movies can have triggering scenes but you can check IMDbs parental guide

        • The Fall of Usher (1928), abstract gothic silent film adaptation of Edgar Allen Poes poem, the cinematography is beautiful and incredibly goth
        • May (2002), a quirky horror film about a quirky girl
        • The Girl With the Needle (2024)
        • Sorry, Baby (2025)
        • Bad Timing (1980)
        • How to Blow Up a Pipeline

I know it may not be very ‘based’ to recommend a streaming service but Mubi has great stuff on there and is a much better use of your time than any social media

Yeah I don’t really see much of what was around in the 90s and 2000s as a kid when counter culture was very much against office drone and Americana in general. I do feel we have some counter culture but it’s based on disengagement from consumption and so it’s a lot of move away from city and live in low cost tiny home or shack growing crops (i.e. not cottage or farm core which is rich white larping to feel superior).

It’s the algorithms. They only promote the monoculture and everything else stays off your feed. Either people get sucked into the game or you never hear from them again because the algorithm has silenced them.
