  • I took an interview with Tesla a while back (not because I had any intention of working there, just to hear about it). Recruiter mentioned how the company is basically all in on their humanoid robot.

I asked - why humanoid? Why not better forms or purpose-built for specific/subsets of tasks? The answer was basically Elon wants his factories operated by humanoid robots. That’s it. No greater degree of thought from one of the most “valuable” companies in the world in designing what is intended to be a flagship product.

  • Yes. There is no reason not to. Various aspects of the job search are time intensive and LLMs can help you speed it up.

I used LLMs to help get my current job. It was a good editor for my stuff (letters, resumes) and helped me turn my ideas and experiences into language optimized for recruiters and hiring managers in my field

Just don’t be a dumbass. Like… LLMs are really stupid and will not produce good quality stuff all the time. Use them for drafting, idea generation, help rephrasing things. Don’t just expect them to do all your stuff for you. Also, recruiters use LLMs to pick candidates - so tuning your stuff for that is (unfortunately) kind of important - very similar to search engine optimization.

I got my job really fast because I put a lot of effort into each application (and job market was better when I got hired a couple years back). Try to think what recruiters from that company want to see. Also include lots of key terms - especially from job postings that you want/are similar to those you do. LLMs can help isolate the relevant buzzwords if you want - but that’s easy to do manually

    Examples of things to do:

    1. reviewing resume. It can’t write a good resume, but it can help draft & give ideas for rephrasing things in ways that are more likely to get recruiter attention.

    2. polishing up linkedin profile. Linkedin sucks and is garbage - but you need one. Why not let LLMs help you turn your resume into an effective linkedin page? Also, LLMs have access to all the shitty articles on how to make your linkedin more appealing - that way you don’t need to read them

    3. cover letters. Cover letters are much overlooked by job seekers - largely because it sucks having to write/edit dozens of them. Let LLM draft a cover letter and help you change out the words to suit each company you’re applying to.

    4. interview prep. Have it quiz you. People sometimes post interview questions online. LLMs can access that. So why not ask it to interview you like whatever company you’re prepping for

They’re really like “the lesson of the holocaust is antisemitism bad” which, like, okay sure that is part of the lesson. But there were an additional 6M victims who were not jewish. Incredibly selfish take to think that your marginalized group is the only one that matters & to claim the entirety of the holocaust’s conferred victim status when your group was only 50% of the victims.

  • Yeah thats bullshit. Sure labor has value and you can’t pay more than you can afford. But what that job is worth is not what this guy is paying even if he can easily afford it. He wants the cheapest labor and is deciding what the labor is worth based on the lowest price anyone in the world is willing to accept. He’s right that “it’s just capitalism bro” though. It’s literally the only logical outcome in a capitalist framework

For TMJD one of the major things to recover is to develop a relaxed jaw posture. Say “mine” - the position of your jaws and tongue at the end of the word is proper posture. Your teeth should not touch at rest.

Teeth slightly apart, tip of tongue on roof of mouth (lightly). Be mindful throughout the day and maintain that position. When you catch yourself with bad position, fix it.

  • I think it’s a refutation of unregulated production & resource distribution in general.

In socialism, distribution would be handled by the state or locality, by the producers themselves, by a work coupon system, with money (a la market socialism), or theoretically in a sort of free-for-all all where people just request what they need. Only the last one is really implicated in a tragedy of the commons type scenario, with the money and work coupon systems potentially causing a smaller degree of that sort of an issue (as there would be less inequality, so less possibility of overproduction due to demand). Producers would, in that case, be encouraged to produce more to fill the increased demand, but there wouldn’t be a profit motive for doing so, and so a consumer-side tragedy of the commons is less likely. Also, producers’ access to resources would theoretically be more tightly regulated than in capitalism, but that isn’t necessarily the case.

In capitalism, distribution is dictated by the money system obviously and due the massive inequality there is a big disparity among people’s buying power - but more importantly companies consume the vast majority of resources and are encouraged to grow infinitely in a world of finite resources - creating demand where it doesn’t naturally exist to squeeze more profit out of folks’ savings, make them take on debt, or cause them to deprioritize other purchases.

In capitalism, people are not encouraged to consume infinitely more because it is not possible. You only have so many needs and so much income as an individual. The market invents new needs with advertising and such (you need makeup, you need the newest smartphone with ten cameras, you need glasses that let facebook spy on you), but consumers’ buying power is limited. People can’t really cause a market-wide tragedy of the commons, only companies can because they have the vast majority of the access to resources and the ability and motive (profit motive) to acquire them.

Tragedy of the commons, or some iteration of it, seems inevitable under capitalism, but is mitigated or eliminated under socialism
